Is the Beginner's P compulsory?

After passing the theory test for the driving license, you will receive the pink sheet, a provisional driving license with some restrictions. This temporary document allows you to practice driving with certain vehicles, which must not weigh more than 3.5 tons and have a power of less than 70 kW or 95 hp, or a kW / t ratio lower than 55. With the pink sheet you have to also respect more restrictive speed limits, up to 90 km / h on main suburban roads and 100 km / h on motorways. In addition, an experienced driver must be alongside the driver, i.e. a person with a driving license for at least 10 years and no more than 65 years of age. For those who drive a vehicle with the pink sheet, the Beginner's P is mandatory, in fact this mark is used to warn other drivers that the vehicle is being driven by an inexperienced person. In this way, drivers of other vehicles will pay attention to the novice driver, who, for example, could suddenly brake the car or make the vehicle switch off during a hill start. The letter P must be kept for the entire period preceding the obtaining of the definitive driving license, therefore every time the driver with the pink slip exercises, the car must be equipped with this mark. After the last regulatory update introduced with the infrastructure decree, today the duration of the pink sheet is 1 year, during which up to 3 attempts can be made to pass the practical test.

P beginner: where to put in the car?

The Beginner's P must only be displayed when driving with a private car, in fact the badge is not necessary on board special vehicles such as driving school cars. These vehicles, in fact, are already set up to warn other drivers of the presence of an inexperienced driver, and are also equipped with dual controls. The characteristics of the letter P are defined by the Highway Code, which indicates the following requirements for the marking: • it must be clearly visible and made of retro-reflective material; • the P must be written in capital letters; • two markings must be displayed, one at the front and the other at the rear of the vehicle; • the dimensions of the letter P are 12 x 9 cm for the front one and 20 x 18 cm for the back one; • the measurements of the background must be 15 x 12 cm for the front one and 30 x 30 cm for the rear one, • the letter P must be black, while the background must be white. As we have seen, those who drive with the pink sheet must apply two markings to the vehicle, one to be placed on the front of the vehicle and the other on the rear. The letter P must be placed on the car's windshield and rear window, choosing points that do not bother the driver by reducing visibility on the road. Alternatively, you can put the Beginner's P on the car's front hood and trunk lid. In this case it is necessary to choose points that make the marking clearly visible, so that other road users can easily understand that there is an inexperienced person driving the car. H3: Does Beginner's P go right or left? There are no restrictions on the exact point in which to put the badge, just choose a marginal point that does not affect the driver's view of the vehicle. Typically, the letter P is positioned at the top right of the car's front windshield, while the second mark is placed both on the right and left on the rear window.
